Kitchen Cabinet Painting Services
Spray-Painted Doors
Spray application produces a smoother, more uniform finish than brush application. It is the correct method for a factory-quality result on solid wood and MDF surfaces.
Doors are removed from the kitchen, prepared, primed, and sprayed in a controlled environment. We work through doors in batches so the kitchen stays partially functional throughout. See our interior painting page for the broader room programme if you are painting the kitchen walls at the same time.
Solid Wood vs MDF Cabinets
Solid wood and MDF respond differently to preparation and paint. Solid wood absorbs primer variably, particularly at end grain. MDF has a smooth face that takes paint well but a porous edge that needs sealing separately.
We identify the cabinet material at the site visit and confirm the appropriate primer and finish. Getting it right at the primer stage determines how long the topcoat holds.
Cabinet Colour Selection
Shaker-style kitchen doors in Duchy Victorian properties suit classic colours such as Farrow and Ball Moles Breath, Railings, or Blackened. In more contemporary kitchens in Pannal and Killinghall, a cooler grey or soft white is more commonly requested.
We advise on colour at the site visit, considering the worktop material, floor covering, and the wider room scheme. A colour that reads well on a paint card can look very different on 20 cabinet doors throughout a kitchen.
Cabinet Painting vs Replacement
Replacing a full kitchen costs significantly more than repainting the existing cabinetry. Where the carcasses and hinges are sound and the layout works, painting is a practical and cost-effective route to a fresh result.
We advise honestly at the site visit. If doors are warped, delaminating, or too worn to take a clean finish, we say so. Painting over a surface that will not hold the finish is not a service we offer.
Worktops and Carcasses
Where carcasses and visible interiors are included, we paint these in a coordinating colour. Carcasses typically carry a lighter shade than the doors to prevent the kitchen feeling heavy.
Worktops are not painted. We mask and protect worktops during all cabinet painting work.

Here’s How It Works
1. Site Visit and Colour Consultation
We assess the cabinet material, check door and carcass condition, and advise on colour options. We confirm whether doors should be removed for spraying or painted in situ.
2. Door Removal and Preparation
Doors and drawer fronts are removed. Hardware is unclipped and stored safely. Each piece is labelled for correct re-hanging. Surfaces are cleaned, degreased, and sanded.
3. Priming
A primer suited to the material is applied to all surfaces. MDF edges receive a separate sealing pass. Wood surfaces with knots or bleed risk receive stain-blocking primer.
4. Spray Application
Doors are sprayed in batches in a controlled environment. Two finish coats are applied with a full cure between each. We inspect in raking light at each stage.
5. Re-Hanging and Hardware
Doors are re-hung in the correct positions and hardware is refitted. We adjust hinges to ensure each door hangs level and closes correctly before leaving.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Costs in Harrogate
Prices below are estimates only. Every kitchen is different. Call 01423 226111 for a precise quote. Kitchen cabinet painting typically ranges from £1,200 to £2,600 for a standard to large kitchen, depending on door count, material, and paint system.

Door Count
A 10-door kitchen costs less than a 25-door kitchen with full-height larder units. We count every door and drawer front at the site visit and quote per piece.
Material and Condition
Solid wood with knots or previous varnish layers needs more preparation than clean MDF. Heavily soiled or greasy cabinetry needs more cleaning and degreasing before priming.
Paint System
Dulux Trade kitchen paint is the standard product. Farrow and Ball and Little Greene finishes cost more per litre but are available and priced accordingly.
Typical ranges: Duchy Victorian detached with Farrow and Ball finish (20-25 doors) £1,600 to £2,600. Oatlands Edwardian semi with Dulux Trade (12-16 doors) £1,200 to £1,900. Smaller kitchens (8-12 doors) £900 to £1,400.
