Harrogate Bedroom Painting Services
Master Bedroom
A master bedroom in a period Harrogate property is often where colour and finish matter most. High ceilings in Duchy and West End properties allow for a stronger ceiling colour or a bold wall behind the bed.
We paint walls, ceiling, and all woodwork as a complete room. Where original coving is present, we hand-cut at every junction — clean lines at the coving and cornice are what separate a professional finish from a DIY result.
Children’s Rooms
Children’s rooms need durable, washable finishes. We use scrubbable emulsions on walls and durable satinwood on woodwork — these hold up to marks and wipes far better than standard emulsion.
Colour choices in children’s rooms often change as they grow. We advise on finishes that are easy to repaint when the time comes, without extensive preparation.
Feature Wall
A feature wall behind the bed is the most common bedroom accent request. On feature wall painting projects we advise on colour depth and sheen level, and check whether the wall surface needs extra preparation before a deep colour is applied.
Oatlands Edwardian semis with chimney breasts in the main bedroom have a natural focal point. The chimney breast plaster often has slight movement and needs careful filling before a deep colour will sit flat.

Built-in Wardrobes, Alcoves and Ceilings

Built-in Wardrobes and Alcoves
Alcoves and recesses on either side of a chimney breast are standard in Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms. We paint alcove walls, ceilings, and interiors as part of the bedroom programme rather than as extras.
Built-in wardrobe interiors can be refreshed with a lighter colour than the main room to add brightness. We advise on colour at the site visit.
Ceiling and Coving
High ceilings in period bedrooms across The Duchy and West End need roller work at height and careful hand-cutting at the coving profile. A clean ceiling line on a bedroom with original coving is one of the most visible quality indicators in a period property.
Where coving has built-up paint layers, we advise on whether filling and sanding is needed to retain the profile edge. See our living room painting page for how the same approach applies in reception rooms.

How Our Bedroom Painting Works
1. Site Visit and Colour Consultation
We discuss the colour scheme, advise on sheen levels for different surfaces, and assess the existing surface condition. Access requirements for tall ceilings are noted at this stage.
2. Preparation
Walls are filled and sanded. Original coving is assessed and prepared. Surfaces are primed where needed. In period bedrooms this stage takes longer than in a modern room.
3. Ceiling First
The ceiling is painted before walls so any drips or roller spatter are covered. We use an extension roller on high ceilings and switch to a brush for all coving and corner work.
4. Walls and Feature Surfaces
Walls are painted next. Feature walls get extra preparation at the edges. The colour change must be clean at every junction.
5. Woodwork Last
Skirting boards, architraves, door frames, and window boards are painted last. We mask adjacent surfaces and cut in precisely at every junction.

Bedroom Painting Costs in Harrogate
Prices below are estimates only. Every bedroom is different. Call 01423 226111 for a precise quote.
A standard bedroom repaint typically costs between £350 and £950, depending on room size, ceiling height, and what is included.
Ceiling Height
A ten-to-twelve-foot ceiling in a Duchy Victorian bedroom needs access equipment and takes longer to cut in. This is reflected in the quote.
Period Features
Original coving, ceiling roses, and picture rails all add time. Hand-cutting these elements correctly adds to the total, but it is what produces the quality result.
Project Size
Walls and ceiling only costs less than a full repaint including woodwork, alcoves, built-in wardrobes, and feature wall.
- Standard double bedroom (Bilton inter-war semi): £350 to £500 for walls, ceiling, and woodwork.
- Large master bedroom with original coving (Oatlands Edwardian semi): £500 to £750 for a full repaint.
- Duchy Victorian detached master bedroom (high ceiling and coving): £600 to £950 where period features require additional preparation.
